The Road Ahead Sustainability Forum
The Road Ahead Sustainability Forum held on July 10 at Whitman’s Reid Center is preserved in an audio recording available for download here.
The event featured information on global changes affecting our community, a panel discussion on what we should be doing locally to meet present and future needs, a public comment period, and networking sessions at information tables staffed by various sponsoring organizations.
Panelists included Susanne Croft, sustainability coordinator for the City of Spokane, Whitman scientist Bob Carson, Walla Walla Area Chamber of Commerce president Tim Larkin, port commissioner Mike Frederickson, city manager Duane Cole, Homeless Coalition member Noah Leavitt, and long-time resident and householder Jenny Romine. WWCC President Steve VanAusdle introduced and moderated the forum.
The event was jointly sponsored by Sustainable Walla Walla, the Sustainable Living Center, the Walla Walla Area Resource Conservation Committee, the Latino-American Forum, Blue Mountain Action Council, the Homeless Coalition, Commitment to Community, Whitman College, Walla Walla Community College, Walla Walla University, the Grandmothers Roundtable, Walla Walla 2020, Many Waters Community Development, and the Walla Walla Union-Bulletin.

Join FutureWalla guests and others Wednesdays at noon for a "Community Conversation Café," an informal discussion on sustainability issues from 12-1:15, at Merchants Delicatessen. This week (Aug. 27) our guests will be Rich Monacelli of the Small Business Center and Arum Kone, regional labor economist for the State of Washington, and we'll be talking about economic prospects in a changing environment and economy, among other things.

FutureWalla has been a weekly radio show on KWCW 90.5 FM focused on the sustainability of the Walla Walla Valley, with hosts Barbara and Dan Clark. The show includes updates on world, national, and local news and events related to sustainability, plus interviews with a variety of guests.
